It’s stupid to think that ANY form of social media is your friend, but judging by the events of the past few years (especially this past few weeks), the best type of platform is the one you completely own (your own server, domain, etc). The next best thing is the platform that have been existing since forever, not-so-popular-but-popular-enough, albeit with minimum traffic: so now I find myself back here in fucking WordPress. š

Twitter right now is like that scene from SpongeBob (you know the one) thanks to Elon. Instagram is a property of Meta (need I say more?) and is constantly trying to become the western Tiktok, while Tiktok is for dancing tweens. WordPress would probably do the same shit that the other platforms are doing right now if they pivoted to catering short-form video somewhere along the way, but luckily they didn’t —plus they couldn’t, thanks to their brand name.
Initially I thought this takeover could be good in some ways. The BlueSky API idea that Elon and Jack were pushing during the initial phase looked promising, but judging by the way the things are right now. It will take a while before it gets anywhere. As for IG, I’ve always wanted to leave the hellscape that is Meta. It doesn’t take a genius to sense that our data is being farmed in all of their platforms. I feel like a genetically engineered / bred chicken who can barely walk due to the amount of data (read: content) only to be slaughtered for sweet, sweet ad money.
For now, I’m planning to post all my photos here in WordPress along with a short story (starting on my next post). I am aware that this platform does not have the same amount of traffic compared to photo/video focused sites, but I prefer the freedom of having basic text formatting styles.
(When I become better at this, I’m thinking of moving this stuff to Medium)
